Overview

Anticipation is high for the new 2024 Lincoln Nautilus. This second-generation SUV will get a serious remodel with a bold new look and new tech to match, including an eco-friendly hybrid powertrain, an enormous driver display, and optional Lincoln Rejuvenate features to keep both drivers and passengers calm on the road. Although it's perfect for school runs and road trips, the 2024 Lincoln Nautilus proves that it's no ordinary family SUV.

Performance and Fuel Economy

Every 2024 Lincoln Nautilus has a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine. The standard engine will generate 250 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. The new hybrid powertrain, available at all trim levels, sees the inline-four working in tandem with a 100 kW electric motor. This eco-friendly combination boosts the horsepower to 310. Lincoln also scrapped the twin-turbo V-6 for this year.

While it's unclear whether the new hybrid will be as quick off the mark, both 2024 engines will be more fuel-efficient. All-wheel drive now comes standard, so the Nautilus should feel more sure-footed, especially when driving around curves and in the wet.

While Lincoln hasn't released fuel economy estimates yet, it's expected the base model will achieve around 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, just like the 2023 model with the same engine did. As the Nautilus is a heavier vehicle generating more horsepower than its hybrid SUV rivals, Car and Driver predicts the hybrid Nautilus should achieve around 37 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

Specs and Design

The Nautilus makes a strong style statement in 2024. Lincoln redesigned this SUV from the ground up, incorporating horizontal design lines that aim to capture the calming nature of the sea that inspired its name. It's bigger and bolder than its predecessor, with a blacked-out roof and large patterned grilles that denote the different trim levels. The Reserve's grille has a sporty look, while the elegant grille on the Black Label is befitting of Lincoln's highest trim.

New LED daytime running lights travel across the grille before joining up with the headlights. The tail lamps and headlamps light up with dynamic sequences as Nautilus owners approach their vehicles. The base Premiere trim features 19-inch wheels, while the Reserve trim gets 21 inches and the Black Label 22 inches. New integrated door handles and hidden rear exhaust outlets give the latest SUV a sleeker and more streamlined look.

The large class-leading 48-inch display, which stretches across the entire cabin, gives the new Nautilus' interior a space-age feel. Welcoming light waves mimic the exterior light sequences. Interior color themes such as Chalet Black Label and Redwood, which evoke the majestic forests of California, let customers create a Nautilus that helps them feel at home. For a more unique look, motorists can choose the Jet Appearance Package at all trim levels. It's a sophisticated choice with Pillar Black paint and body-color exterior details, a Black Onyx interior with Copper Code Aluminum details, and glossy 22-inch black wheels.

Technology Used

As the enormous display up front suggests, the Nautilus is a tech-forward vehicle. Essential driver details such as navigation and instruments sit on the driver's side, while the passenger side is customizable from the 11.1-inch center stack touch screen that sits below.

Users can simply drag and drop their preferred widgets, including the time, weather, and media playback. The display sits at eye level, and interactive functions such as games are locked when the car is in motion to help the driver focus on the road. They can also use calm mode to shut off the screen's right side and further minimize distractions.

Keeping its customers calm seems to be a key concern for Lincoln this year, as it introduces the Lincoln Rejuvenate function. With ambient interior lighting, sounds, massage seats, and fragrance diffusion, it represents the ultimate in motoring relaxation.

Comfort

Lincoln has made its popular two-row SUV more comfortable than ever by increasing leg room in the front and back. The seats are also power-adjustable, allowing drivers and their passengers to customize their position to ensure they have a comfortable ride. Thigh extenders on the front seats further enhance comfort, and the leather upholstery and leather-wrapped steering wheel feel buttery soft.

In the colder months, motorists will appreciate the heated steering wheel and seats. Front seats are always heated as standard, but heated rear seats are an optional extra. Those seats are also ventilated to ensure the occupants stay cool during the summer months.

Safety Features

Lincoln's Co-Pilot360 suite acts as an extra set of eyes and ears for all new Nautilus customers. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named this comprehensive driver-assistance package the most effective for reducing collisions. It features:

  • Automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
  • Lane-keeping assist with lane departure warning.
  • Adaptive cruise control with a lane-centering feature.
  • Pre-collision assist.
  • Blind-spot information and cross-traffic alert.
  • A rearview camera.
  • Automatic high-beam headlamps.

The 2024 Nautilus is also available with BlueCruise 1.2, Lincoln's latest hands-free highway driver-assistance technology. This innovative feature uses Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control to safely navigate over more than 130,000 miles of highway in North America. A driver-facing camera monitors motorists' alertness, while the system takes care of the steering, braking, and acceleration.

While several automakers now offer hands-free highway driver-assistance tools, only BlueCruise received the top rating from Consumer Reports. The service is complimentary for the first 90 days with the lower trims and four years with the higher trims, after which time motorists can opt for a paid subscription.
