Being locked out of your Lincoln can turn a great day into a total nightmare in seconds. Don't worry, though; your Lincoln comes with several built-in ways to get back in without scratching or damaging anything. Our team at Jim Burke Lincoln walks you through the tech options in newer Lincolns and some backup methods that work even when your phone's dead.
Use the SecuriCode Keyless Entry Keypad
Lincoln's keyless entry system uses the SecuriCode keypad to unlock the driver's door of your Lincoln with a door code. Your vehicle comes programmed with a five-digit factory-set code, or you can reset it with a personal code. To find the factory-set code, check the wallet card in your owner's manual, your information display, or your Jim Burke Lincoln service records.
If you want to unlock all the doors, enter your code, then press the "3-4" button within five seconds. To release the trunk, press the "5-6" button instead. To lock all the doors, you don't need to enter the five-digit code. Instead, make sure the driver's door is closed, then press and hold the "7-8" and "9-0" buttons simultaneously.
Unlock With the Lincoln App and Phone As A Key Feature
Newer Lincolns use the Lincoln app, previously called the Lincoln Way app, to unlock the vehicle. To use the app, first download it and pair it with your car. You'll need Bluetooth 4.2 or newer, iOS 16.0 or higher, or Android 8.0 or later for it to work. Once the app is downloaded, you can add your vehicle. Then, to initiate the Phone As A Key feature, select your vehicle, tap "Make this phone a key," and select "Pair Device."
Once you're set up and within 3 to 10 feet of your car, Phone As A Key can lock and unlock your vehicle, start it with climate control running, roll your windows up or down, and more.
Family members can also install the app and set up their own profiles. You can download the Lincoln App from Jim Burke Lincoln.
Use the Hidden Manual Key Blade Inside Your Fob
A Lincoln manual key blade is hidden inside every fob as an emergency key. To find it, locate the small button or sliding panel on your fob. Press the button or slide the panel while pulling out the metal key.
Once the key is out, find the hidden lock on your driver's door. It's usually under a plastic cap near the handle. Pry off this cover carefully with your fingernail or the key itself and place the key into the lock. Be sure to turn it smoothly and never force it. Using the manual key only opens the driver's door, so you'll need to use the inside buttons to unlock everything else.
Jump-Start an Unresponsive Key Fob Battery
If the battery in your fob is nearly drained, you'll notice signs: it may work sometimes but not others, you might need to stand right next to your car, or you'll see warning lights on your dashboard. To boost the dying signal, you can hold the fob against your chin (sounds odd, but it works), press it to your head, or put it right against where the car's receiver might be.
If you can get inside your car, look for a special fob slot in the center console, dashboard, or cup holder area. Stick your fob there, and you can still start the engine even with a weak battery. For push-button start cars, sometimes touching the fob directly to the start button works because there's a backup sensor that needs almost no power.
If your Lincoln key fob battery is completely dead, you'll need to replace it. Most Lincoln fobs take CR2450 or CR2032 batteries. If you need assistance, visit our parts department, and we'll help you find the right replacement battery for your fob.
